101 Domains Domain Information Update ".ro" domains.

Important: When entering your search string don't write “www” or the Romanian domain type, ie. “ro”. Therefore to search “www.101domains.ro” enter “101domains” and nothing else.

The only letters allowed within a domain name are: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Spaces are NOT ALLOWED.

Once the domain is registered

All Romanian domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Romanian domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another Romanian domain name registrar.

Background

.ro is the Internet country code top-level domain name (ccTLD) for Romania, a country found in South-Eastern and Central Europe. Introduced to Romania in 1993, it is currently operated by the RNC (Romanian National R&D Computer Network) and sponsored by the National Institute for R&D in Informatics.

Registrations for the .ro domain name takes place at a second level, but applicants may also register at the third level under one of various second level domain labels. These labels are as follows:
  • .arts.ro - intended for entities related to culture. Art, music, etc.
  • .com.ro - intended for commercial entities.
  • .firm.ro - intended for firms.
  • .info.ro - intended for information providers.
  • .nom.ro - intended for individuals who want their own name as a domain name.
  • .nt.ro - for entities emphasising data networking activities, regarding to the Internet network especially.
  • .org.ro - non-profit organisations
  • .rec.ro - intended for recreational and entertainment activities. Sport, gaming, etc.
  • .store.ro - for shops, stores, shopping entities etc.
  • .tm.ro - intended for trademarks. Proof of the trademark must be submitted.
  • .www.ro - intended for entities related to the World Wide Web.

When registering under the Romanian country code domain name .ro, applicants have to follow certain guidelines. A domain name may only include the Latin alphabet (a-z), digits (0-9) and hyphens (-). Hyphens cannot be used at the end or at the beginning of a domain. Using these characters, domains cannot exceed 63 characters (this does not include the domain suffix). If these guidelines are broken an application for the .ro domain name may be rejected.
