.no is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Norway.

Norid runs the .no registry and maintains the database for all Internet domains under .no. It is not possible to apply for a domain name through Norid. So in order to apply for a domain name you have to go through a registrar. The registrar is therefor the link between your organization and Norid. Nordid are responsible for developing the domain name policy for the domain space .no according to the needs of the society and within the framework of the Domain Regulation. Norid have a strong social responsibility since they manage a resource whch is important for most parts of the society.

In order for a Organization to register a domain under the domain ".no" a valid organization number must be shown. This means that your organization number has to be in the "the Brønnøysund Register Centre" also known as Enhetsregisteret. Not only will your organisation have to show a organisation number but you must also provide a paper that shows your Norwegian postal address. An organization can hold up to twenty domains directly within .no. In addition, the organization can register up to 5 domain names under relevant branches, and up to 5 domain names under each geographical area to which the organization has an affiliation.

Since the launch of the .no domain in 1983, the number of domain names under .no has grown rapidly. The number of active domain names reached 100 in 1991. And that number increased tenfold every third year, reaching 1000 in 1995, 10.000 in 1997 and 100.000 in 2001.
