101 Domains Domain Information Update ".dk" domains.

Important: When entering your search string don't write “www” or the Danish domain type, ie. “dk”. Therefore to search “www.101domains.dk” enter “101domains” and nothing else.

The only letters allowed within a domain name are: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Spaces are NOT ALLOWED.

Once the domain is registered

All Danish domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Danish domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another Danish domain name registrar.

Background

The ccTLD for Denmark, an abbreviation for Internet Country Code Top-Level Domain, is .dk. It is managed by the DK-Hostmaster who, though there are no restrictions, need to approve the domain name registered for. If a Name Server needs to be tested, 500 Danish Krona plus VAT will be charged. This can be important seeing as if there is no approved or functioning name servers attached to the domain name, it may be deleted by the Danish Registry. They must be set up in advance and approved.

Once registered, an e-mail will be sent which will tell of the instructions on how to activate the domain name. There are Three Months from the date of registration in which you can activate the domain name, but if you wait over this time it will be deleted by the Danish Registry. You can register directly under .dk and the domain names are available under a 'first come, first served' basis. They can be registered from 1-3 years, or 5 years.

From 2007, a new rule was applied to domain names which are registered through DK Hostmaster. This was a suspension rule and is for the event of typo squatting. This refers to when a domain name is registered with an error, perhaps when a character or two is changed. If the domain name is familiar and already existing, it won't be allowed.
