101 Domains Domain Information Update ".vi" domains.

Caribbean domains: US Virgin Islands (.vi)

Important: When entering your search string don't write “www” or the US Virgin Islands domain type, ie. “vi”. Therefore to search “www.101domains.vi” enter “101domains” and nothing else.

The only letters allowed within a domain name are: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Spaces are NOT ALLOWED.

Once the domain is registered

All US Virgin Islands domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for US Virgin Islands domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another US Virgin Islands domain name registrar.

Background

.vi is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The ".vi" domain space is managed and maintained by the VI Registry.

Second level domains under the ccTLD ".vi" will be delegated only to businesses physically operating within the Virgin Islands, or to residents of the Virgin Islands.

Currently the available sublevel domains under ".vi" are:

".vi" Available to US Virgin Islands residents only.

".co.vi"

".com.vi"

".net.vi"

".org.vi"

In order to be successful when registering a second level domain please note the following bullet points:

• All One Letter domains are reserved to cater for possible future sub-domain usage.

• Two letter names are not allowed these named are reserved for ISO country codes. The same goes for certain three letter names listed in ISO-3166.

• There shall be at least two name servers for the domain operating at the time the request is submitted. These must be reachable on the Internet at the time of application and their IP address location is not important.

• There shall be at least two name servers for the domain operating at the time the request is submitted. These must be reachable on the Internet at the time of application and their IP address location is not important.

The VI REGISTRY is not proactive in acting as arbiter, but will supply all known contact details for a given Domain Name to a third party where a domain name dispute is alleged.
