Once the domain is registered

All Polish domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Polish domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another Polish domain name registrar.

Background

.pl is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Poland, officially known as the Republic of Poland, a country found in Central Europe. The .pl domain name was introduced in 1990 and it is operated and sponsored by NASK ('Naukowa I Akademicka Siec Komput! erowa', or 'research and academic computer network'), a Polish research and development organisation and data networks operator.

The .pl domain name is highly popular in Poland, especially since there are no restrictions for registration. These registrations can be made directly at a second level, or at a third-level under one of several second-level domain labels, of which the best known are:

  • .art.pl - intended for artistic usage
  • .bis.pl - for commerce
  • .com.pl - for commerce

  • .mil.pl - principally for military use
  • .net.pl - intended for entities dealing with network infrastructure
  • .org.pl - intended for non-governmental organisations
  • .ngo.pl - intended for non-governmental organisations

Other second-level labels are related to cities in Poland:

  • .bialystok.pl - Bialystok
  • .gorzow.pl - Gorzow Wielkopolski
  • .gda.pl - Gdansk
  • .gdansk.pl - Gdansk
  • .katowice.pl - Katowice
  • .krakow.pl - Krakow
  • .lodz.pl - Lodz
  • .lublin.pl - Lublin

  • .wroc.pl - Wroclaw
  • .wroclaw.pl - Wroclaw
  • .zgora - Zielona Gora

There are various rules determining what an applicant may have for a domain when registering under the .pl domain name. For starters, the domain name may only include Latin alphabet (a-z), digits (0-9) and hyphens (-). However, the hyphen cannot be placed at the beginning or at the end of a domain. Domains may have 63 characters, no more.
